SYC

Can someone share more info about them? They seemed to have crush all their competition in the East Coast Premier friendlies this past weekend. At least the younger groups.

But I don’t know much about them. Are they like BSC and are so big that they can field many teams? Is the training so top notch or the kids individually good? Are the kids super technical or have size speed advantages? I’m assuming a combo of all?

Their 2012G top team is probably one of the best in the area. Similar to 2011G arlington though. Might be more of a product of being together long and adding pieces here or there than the club itself.

At U12G and below, your kid can get on a top team at then great. If not, best to look at some other options. Also, I would add B may not be a bad option if you get a commitment pre tryout that B is temporary and the kid will be on the top team. Otherwise, good luck.

As they go from 7v7 to 9v9 and from cycle to cycle during those U9-U12 years they look to add/recruit from other clubs versus promote from within through development. They are so focused on winning at SYC and will play tons of matches/events annually to rack up those Ws.

Bingo. Well said. Win baby win. Also, if your kid is the strong athletic type at those ages they have a better shot of getting recruited vs. anything else.

SYC aggressively recruits at the younger age groups to stack up talent. I do not know about the boys side but it does not workout at the older ages for them. Everyone catches up.

Agree. All about winning.

I have never forgotten a game in which the SYC girls coach of U12 yelled and criticized his player to the extent that if I see a parent on his team I would pull my girl off and put a formal complaint in. I think SYC is a horribly coached team from the perspective of how cruel and totally unacceptable they are about winning. And we play on a top team that wins. There's just no reason for a coach to rip a girl to shreds over one mistake in a game. I'll never forget it.

I had the same experience on the boys side when my son’s U9 team played against SYC. I’ve never seen such obnoxious coaching/screaming as what I saw from the SYC coach. It was disgusting.

They added a really good coach on the girls side this year. Also they are one of the few girls programs with female coaches

That’s good news. Hopefully, they have an impact on the club culture. For a while it was a boys club hiring their buddies.

OP here.

So what I gather is that they have winning teams because the players are recruited from outside teams and that they play well bc they are berated into playing well?

That can’t be accurate is it?

Would that mean a significant portion of their teams are new to the club and team every year?

Example: 2012G has four stud players. Two of which are the best of the best. Most of the team has been playing together since U9. They look to recruit players for the ones that fall off in production rather than promote from within.

From what I’ve seen, I think they recruit the same as every other club. But from a young age they teach the kids (boys, at least) to make cynical intentional fouls and play rough, all the while the coach berates them from the sideline for the entire game:

They’ve done well in the early years; time will tell if that is a viable path to success for developing good players. But even it if were, the abusive yelling is over the top in my opinion.

From what I have seen and experienced, it’s far more intense on the boys’ side than the girls’ side.
