Can you suggest four CLASSIC books for a 14y old girl, 8th grader?

Child is an excellent student but right now is in a very weak school academics wise.

I cannot change these circumstances but I’m complementing her education at home.

Since I’m not originally from this country or from an English speaking country, could you please suggest four CLASSIC novels for her to read while at this school?

Preferably something that has study guides out there so we can work through it.

Thanks!

Four = one for each quarter.

Animal Farm
Oliver Twist or other books by Dickens
Little Women
Anything by Jane Austen

Dickens would probably be tough for a 14 year old. I read my first as a HS Senior and even then found it hard work.

Agree on the Jane Austen. Start with P and P

I read these so long ago as a teen but they might work

Alexander Dumas - 3 Musketeers
Victor Hugo - Hunchback if ND
LM Montgomery - Anne of Green Gables
F Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby

Oh my gosh, once again we have people who can grasp the age of the reader or the “weak academics” part. OP, so not give this kid Dumas, Dickens, or Hugo. I love Jane Austen, but the language will be off putting for a kid who is a little behind.

Try…
Anne of Green Gables
Chronicles of Narnia
The Witch of Blackbird Pond
Lord of the Rings

Start there. The language isn’t intimidating in these.

Romeo and Juliet? I remember reading that in 8th grade.

Catcher in the Rye is perfect for this age.

The Hobbit.

For pure fun, Cheaper By the Dozen. Not literature, but I remember really enjoying this book at that age. Has some good US cultural history. You could look up the real people the book is about as part of reading/studying it.

Lord of the Flies
Dune
Great Gatsby
Animal Farm
1984
Fahrenheit 451

My 8th grader read them in 6th. I loved them and read them somewhere between 6th and 9th.

Fahrenheit 451
Lord of the flies
To kill a mockingbird
Little women

Save Dumas, Hugo and Austen for high school.

I think Oliver Twist is okay.

Gatsby is a bit racy and gory.

Shakespeare: Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet are commonly taught to younger readers.

OP said her kid is excellent, it’s the current school that’s weak.

Maybe you should have spent more time reading and less time berating.

I love Shakespeare’s stories but the plays are so hard to read. Too much of a chore.
