| Just got rising 9th graders schedule. Is it normal to have different teachers for each semester for the same subject? Eg Hons English A with one teacher and B with a different one? Seems to be the case throughout kid’s schedule. |
| yes |
| Yes, it was like that last year for my then-9th grader in 5 of their 7 classes. |
| It has been for us the last few years. I really dislike it but it seems to be the norm now. |
Why do they do this? It makes no sense, and I imagine makes it much harder to get a meaningful rec for college apps. |
| Yes it’s normal and second semester schedule could change from what is there now. Heck your DD might be the change initiator. |
Electives. |
The switches happen less often in junior and senior year classes in my experience. |
| It happens plenty in junior and senior year at my kids school. It sucks. |
But the teacher changes even if you are in the exact same class at the same time period. That is what makes no sense. |
| It seems like it should only be necessary in situations where someone is taking two different one-semester electives, which might have different teachers. But if you are only taking the A and B semesters of the same class, I don't see why switching happens at all. |
| Does anyone know if you are typically with the same kids and just the teacher changes, or if both are mixed up for the sevond semester? |
Everything can get reshuffled. Different teacher, classmates, period number, room number. It's like another first day of school when the second semester starts. |
This is pretty much our experience as well. I have found in some higher level math classes where there are only a few teachers, sometimes kids will keep the same teacher. Same for electives. But the semester changes have never been an issue for my kids. In fact when they don’t particularly like a teacher, they know there’s an end in sight. |
+1. Not every teacher is going to be stellar. If they don't like a teacher, it is an opportunity for a change. |
