What would you pay a nanny with 25 years of experience (but no formal childcare education) to watch 2 kids, ages 4 months and 2? Location is upper NW DC. |
With 25 years of experience, she probably already has her own idea of what her pay should be. Have you asked her? |
Haven’t gotten that far in the process yet, this is someone we heard about through word of mouth. We haven’t spoken with her yet. Glowing references. We’re just trying to figure out what other parents in the same situation pay. |
$30-32hr |
I have interviewed many nannies in that area and it ranges from like $25-35/hr for someone experienced. You can sometimes get down to like $22/hr with a college student or if paying cash. But plenty of folks around $30/hr. And I’d say another batch at about $27-28/hr. The nannies charging around $25/hr often don’t have as strong English language skills (but can be otherwise great!). |
We were paying $26. We just moved to $27. |
There are so many factors beyond location/number of kids. This is like asking "how much does a chicken sandwich cost?" or "how much does a doctor make?"
How many hours per day/week? What other benefits are you offering? Any special needs to consider? |
If you trust the word-of-mouth, you had best grab her. She’ll tell you her rate. |
It is going to depend if you pay under the table or with taxes withheld. I found nanny’s ask more if taxes are withheld. I would guess $27-32 for two young children, full time guaranteed hours with paid vacation/sick days. |
op, can't you ask whoever told you about the nanny, what they paid her? Add $5 per hr for second child to that rate and you are all set. |
With that much experience, she'll set her rate. She SHOULD set it at $30 or $35/hr, but sometimes people undervalue themselves. |
$26-$27. Parent here. I’d be concerned she’s so old. We had the same ages and needed someone in their twenties to lift both kids and stroller at times. |
Nanny here with 25 years experience- I’m in LA so rates are higher but most agency nannies here charge $30-40/hr, I charge $40-45. With 25 years experience, you will be paying more than a college aged nanny. |
Dream on! $35/$40/hr. |
Why does nanny need to lift 2 kids AND the stroller? Are you mad? |
