do nanny salaries differ between DC and VA?

I see 30$ per hour becoming the norm in DC area but what is the average for NOVA? We live in Herndon, and fairly accessible from more affordable places like Ashburn. What do you think?

I think $35/hr paid in salary with vacation is reasonable anywhere. So a salary of $72800 with at LEAST 2 weeks off. We gave 2 weeks at Christmas one week at spring break and our nanny (almost) got summers off too. She came by to feed/clean our rabbit and fish when we were at our beach home for ~3mo in the summer. This was some years ago, so factor 5 years for inflation. My youngest is 11 now and our nanny moved out of state to be closer to family.

Yes you can pay less in Herndon. The above poster is nuts.
Depending on what you are looking for as far as hours, driver, language, experience, degree, cpr cert etc, you can probably find someone for $20-$25.

Yes. My friend in Vienna told me it’s $20-25/hr near her. I’m in NW DC and have found that the norm was $30-35 in our neighborhood.

Well, it doesn't cost less to live in Virginia and none of these nanny employers are agreeing to lower salaries simply because they live in Virginia! So, why should you take $10 less an. Hour just because it's Virginia?

It wouldn’t surprise me if the nannies live in VA themselves so are perhaps willing to accept a bit less to not drive into DC itself. Less traffic, less travel time, less gas expense…

Are you kidding? It obviously cost less to live less in VA, esp in Herndon area

It depends who you want to hire. The top gun nannies are commenting in to DC for the $30-40hr. If you want a neighborhood grandma that loves babies, sure you can probably pay $25hr. If you want the career nanny, you'll still be seeing probably $28-32hr. Another issue is the market is really competitive. Most good candidates who are actively interviewing receive multiple job offers so if you go in at $28 or $29 to save a buck or two, you'll likely lose out.

Great so maybe their nanny can add $100 to savings or retirement or paying off debt instead of being 100% paycheck to paycheck like DC nannies.
