What is your nanny and child’s schedule?

For those of you with FT nannys and no supplemental daycare/preschool, what is a typical day like for your nanny and child/children?

What age?

A mix of indoor activities, playing in the yard, outings, naps, meals, playdates.

My daughter is 12 months and with a nanny. The nanny arrives at 830 am. She feeds baby a snack and packs a lunch for her. Then she leaves with baby in her car, baby has a short morning nap en route to wherever they go - usually the library or the mall or something. They have lunch while out, and return to my house about 1. Baby goes down for second nap about 130/2, sleeps until 3ish. During this time the nanny unpacks lunch stuff and cleans up and preps a snack. Sometimes does baby‘s laundry. When baby wakes up, nanny feeds her a snack and they read or play until 430 when nanny departs.

If I were you I’d be looking for another nanny. Your baby needs development not off at the mall or wherever doing god knows what

What would you suggest? The library seems like a good activity? The mall is socialization. I’m in need of ideas!

Ds is 2.

8:30 nanny arrives, packs a snack and gets DS ready to go - shoes, sunscreen, etc
8:45 nanny and DS leave. Mornings are spent at a playground, indoor gym at the recreation center, story time at the library, or music class
12ish nanny and DS come home, she feeds him lunch
1-3 DS naps. Nanny cleans up lunch, has her own lunch, and takes a break.
3 DS has snack
3:30 nanny and DS head out again - playground or library depending on weather
5:30 return home

She coordinates with other nannies in our neighborhood to meet up at different places. Sometimes they walk, sometimes they drive.

3:30 is the peak of heat, it is brutal outside for anyone let alone little kids sitting in the stroller. and surely torture for a nanny

When my kids were that age they had a bunch of classes -- once a week music class, library storytime, garden class, art class. This is DC, look around wherever you are and you may find similar. We also spent a LOT of time at the playground, socializing with other kids and moving their body.

DP. The mall might be fine, or it might not. Is there a children’s area at the mall where your child can climb, run around and make friends? Or is your child sitting in a stroller for hours while your nanny tries on dresses at H&M? (Even the children’s areas at malls should be visited sparingly. They are FULL of germs).

Library is good. Nature walks. Heck we would even go to PetsMart and look at fish. What about a toddler tumbling program that meets 1x per week? There are also toddler music programs like Kindermusic. These typically meet during the day so perfect for your nanny if y’all can work around nap time. Most children’s museums have a toddler area - your kiddo is not too young for those places. Start checking them out. Many offer memberships so nanny and baby can go as many times as they want.

Also you mention that they are eating out everyday. Again, might be fine, but I’d want confirmation that they aren’t eating fast food everyday.

Lastly I completely understand why your nanny would want to get out of the house - more interesting for her, no cleanup, etc. But kids that age also like super simple things like finger painting or playdoh that can be done at home. Not every day has to be a big adventure.

Do you work from home? If you do I can see why Nanny spends so much time out of the house.
I don’t think it’s terrible to have one nap a day be in a stroller or car seat. My goal as a parent was for at least one nap a day in crib at home.

PP says that her nanny packs lunch for the baby, which implies the baby isn't eating fast food.

did everyone throw caution to the wind in regards to covid? I would never ever let my nanny take my 1 yr old to the mall and/or eat inside the mall. Seems like your nanny is also very lazy, she likes to have your child strapped in the car seat/stroller most of the day. Sounds like your nanny prioritizing her own needs over your child's.
