This is for a "local" (most tournaments within 1-2 hours drive) travel sport with kids not gunning for D1. Just trying to get a sense of where our costs fall. We are looking at $2k for tournament fees and winter training facilities. Another $500 per player in uniforms and individual equiptment. Not included obviously is the actual traveling costs, hotels, gas, food, etc.
Sound about right? |
What is the sport? |
What age and sport? My kid is in elementary and not on a super competitive/tournament heavy baseball team right now. A few tournaments, field and umpire costs for league games, uniforms, and winter workout space is estimated to run about $1,200 per kid. I’m estimating another $300 for new gear. That’s not including hotels or travel costs, or any of the team meal/snack expectations. |
softball, MS age. |
That’s pretty much exactly what we will be paying this year- 13U AAA baseball team with paid coaches. |
$3500 plus uniform for lacrosse team |
Former travel coach here. That’s on the high end of normal. But it depends on the organization. Is a local org or one of these new franchises (Team Virginia Mizuno — all of whose teams suck by the way), Glory, Rogue, Lady Dukes, etc? Also for what you describe, the word you want is “select” team or “club” team, not “travel.” A travel team actually travels. |
We pay about $2500 per year for softball w paid coaches. The team plays roughly 12 tournaments a year and winter workouts. All tournaments in VA/MD/PA, so not a lot of travel costs |
The organization calls it travel, not me. |
My son plays on a 14u baseball team- fees are $450 per season to the organization so $900 for a full year of 2 seasons. We then fundraise for tournament fees (this pays for full and partial fees) and winter workouts. Last year it was $1240 all-in.
We do three local tournaments (within 1-2 hours) and one out of state. |
Same here. That doesn’t include uniforms. |
Elementary schools kids should not be in travel sports. What a racket |
If they did A/B teams for rec, we would have stayed. But by 4th/5th its really frustrating to keep starting over with kids brand new to the sport who are afraid of the ball and aren't even generally familiar with how the game is played. |
Mid/high level basketball for 7th grade girl- top team at a large club. About $800 for spring summer season and another $100 for fall. Uniform was around $200 but we're on the second year of it. Backpack was another $50.
If she makes the top team for 15U, fees and uniform are free plus some merchandise, but travel expenses will go way up. If not, then expenses will remain the same as well as travel going way up |
This. If a kid is good enough, rec becomes frustrating and boring for almost every sport |
