Complicated, depressed child.
In the past she has loved Clueless, Legally Blond, Mean Girls, Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. She did not like/was not interested in: Indiana Jones, Matrix, Forrest Gump. She doesn’t seem to like action. Series she loves and have watched some of the more than once: The Office, Glee, Lucifer, The Good Place, Young Sheldon, Big Bang Theory. We began watching 90120 and while she was interested, the clothes and the whole set up was slightly a turn off. Anyway, from the above, can you suggest a few movies or series we could watch together? |
Gilmore Girls? That's very popular with teen girls right now. She might like My So-Called Life too. |
13 going on 30
Sweet home alabama Billy Madison |
And Friends |
Pitch Perfect |
How to lose a guy in 10 days |
Wednesday if she hasn’t seen it.
The Josie and the Pussycats movie is really underrated and fun, with some of the Clueless appeal. Bring It On is another in that category. |
How about Buffy the Vampire Slayer? It’s dated but not as badly as 90210. |
My mom friends & I were just talking about Friends last week. None of our teen DDs like the show. I tried introducing it to my kid when she was 14 and then later at 16 during the pandemic and she hated it both times. She thought it was corny and "honestly, super offensive, mom" during many episodes. I'll admit, I had forgotten the amount of gay jokes made. And I'm gay. ![]() |
Interesting my DD 14 has watched it multiple times and enjoyed it. She does point out things that are questionable as well and it’s a good talking point… same with when she watched the Office. Yikes. |
Series:
Buffy Chuck (a big hit with my kids) Movies: Christmas with the Kranks Central Intelligence Tag Game night (A couple inappropriate scenes…but, if she watched the Good place she can handle them) Killers (comedy with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigel) |
As far as comedies/ rom coms:
Mrs. Doubtfire 50 First Dates Rat Race Bring It On Drop Dead Gorgeous Miss Congeniality The Proposal How to Lose a Guy… And a little more serious, but heartwarming: A League of Their Own Now and Then The Goonies |
For tv Buffy (although it takes a little while to hit its stride) or Parks and Rec (same).
For movies Bring it on and Step up are fun and I could have a whole John Cusack film festival (Say Anything, Grosse Pointe Blank, the Sure Thing etc) |
Sisterhood of traveling pants |
And Mamma Mia |
