Camp doesn’t enforce shin guard use during scrimmages

The club is Bethesda Soccer Club. Just had a convo with the coordinator who confirmed to me shin guard use is at discretion if the player eve during game play. Reckless.

Have you seen how minuscule the most popular shin guards are now? They're basically for show anyway- kudos to the coordinator for admitting the obvious.

It shouldn’t matter. It is a reckless policy and opens them to liability. The camp info online said they were required.

Our club doesn’t require shin guards at any practice in which, obviously our kids scrimmage.

So tell your kid they need to wear them and move on.

Sorry but you all just kind of sound like amateur hour. Anyone who has played any soccer frankly outside of youth rec chase the ball soocer, knows that shinguards are more of a nuisance than anything else. They do not prevent injuries, and when you play with other skilled players they don't miss and kick your shins, its more your feet that get kicked and beat up and stepped on etc... Just part of the game, shinguards are pointless invest in martial arts so your kid knows how to fall appropriatley that will prevent more injuries than shinguards

How old? My son plays for a different club, and they used to make kids wear them until U14 or so - but they did not make the older kids.

These are high school students. Other camps she has done for HS have required them for game play. Camp leader would direct them to put them on before scrimmages.

My son never wears shin guards during practice. Says they are too hot. This is 7 years of soccer practice.

Our camp doesn’t require them either. Zero kids had shin guards on this week, it’s just too hot.

One of the key words used in this thread. was LIABILITY. Everyone is obsessed with liability and policies ,lawsuits , etc. What happened to the times of growing up playing tackle football in the backyard. Riding bmx bikes without helmets. skinning your knee and just putting a bandaid on it, not rushing to urgent care. Now we have these helicopter parents who have made a generation of kids soft as flowers. Shinguards are one of the most overrated pieces of protective equipment on the market. Just let them play !!!!
