Please help with pulled pork recipe for taco bar

Anonymous
I'm supposed to bring enough pulled pork for 12 people. I want something that I can cook all day today in the slow cooker so it's ready for the party on Saturday. I have a vague idea about pork shoulder (where to buy this?) and spices, but the recipe options online are overwhelming.

What's a tried-and-true easy recipe for this? I appreciate any help!

For tacos, I like this citrus flavored recipe:

You need to decide what you want - do you want carnitas https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/219048/pork-carnitas/ or do you want more bbq style https://barbecuebible.com/recipe/north-carolina-pulled-pork/

The step where she mentions to sear the pork optional.

This recipe is outstanding, but I only use 1 T. of cocoa powder. It could not be easier, and it has gotten rave reviews. Everyone asks me for the recipe.

Making pulled pork in a slow cooker always results in something akin to boiled meat. I find that cooking a pork shoulder uncovered in a low oven (250 F) for ~10-12 hours is WAY better. It's the same method as smoking, just without the smoke. You get the flavor from the caramelization on the outside of the meat, and just enough water evaporates to keep the meat from being mushy. For carnitas, you can season the outside with salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, chile pepper, and a bit of oregano.

Honestly, I just slow cook it with a cup of bottled bbq sauce poured on top. In the slow cooker, it will take 5-6 hours on high, depending on the size. You will know it's close to done when a ton of liquid suddenly appears as the juices melt out of the meat. Once you can very easily slide a fork all the way through the meat, use two forks to shred the meat and remove any bone or clumps of fat that didn't melt. (If there's a bone, it should lift right out and leave all the meat behind.) You might find that the juices mixed with the bbq sauce is all the sauce you need, but I offer more sauce on the size in case someone wants more on their portion.
