ISO outdoor dinner party tips, especially when rain is on the horizon

Anonymous
We are hosting 28-30 folks at our newish beach place (still missing key pieces of furniture/decor). Alas, there is rain on the horizon, so how should I plan?

We have caterers who will have 4 tables if we are going to be outside. Imagining we should pop up some inside if rain though it will not be one long table as envisioned. A friend suggested spa slippers so I just ordered a pile of them to have at the doors if necessary.

Other than nixing any color drinks from the bar if we are inside, what else should I be thinking about? I have a brand new creamy couch - just don't want any stains on it - so love tips for that as well as for the rest of the evening, especially from folks who've had to make this pivot.

Thank you!

Postpone (people understand)

Get those outdoor tent things (the ones with sides youd find at wedding receptions). Most catering companies that rent tables and chairs will set them up for you.

It sounds like you are looking for tips how to keep your home pristine with that many guests. This is a beach house. I’d accept that there will be wear and tear on it! Your guests will be happiest with relaxed hosts.

Scotchguard all furniture. Tents. Get tents. If it doesn't rain, get a couple/few bubble machines - they deter mosquitoes.

I don't think you will be able to relax with people in your home if you are worried about the color of drinks you are serving. Just postpone or cancel.
