So... anyone getting in off wait lists?

Anonymous
So it's April 9! I'd have thought that many schools would know by now if they have openings, since contracts were due back most places end of last week. Has anyone on this board gotten calls/emails from schools re wait list movement?

We did get accepted off a wait list but it wasn't a PreK or K school as most of the people on this board seem to be--I think I did read that someone got accepted at Beauvoir off the wait list last week.

Since the middle of last week, we've been in touch with ADs at Beavoir, GDS, and Maret, and we were told there has been no movement for K and none is anticipated at this point.

One ray of hope - as this is a watershed election year, if and when it becomes crystal clear the Dems will take back the White House, you will see many Republicans scurrying back to their Red State homes and/or burrowing in or revolving through the door at non-DC based jobs.

Decreasing the Republican population in the DC area and opening up a slot for our DC at one of the coveted schools . . . I call that a "two-fer"!!

Very funny, PP. Never thought about it that way. However, we did use a consultant and she mentioned that the politics play a role. The bad news. The Ds are typically a younger appointee crowd and will likely have children that will get some of the "floating" spots. Not to burst your bubble, but that was her advice.

Yup. We heard the same thing as the 7:20 poster when we applied for preschool when congress turned over. It worked the other way around, as 8:35 suggested.

Not to mention the Republicans won't go scurrying back. They'll just become lobbyists.

8:35: Georgia Irvin? I just saw her quoted to the same effect in an advertising section in the WP magazine.

Yes, I found that ad really odd (but yes, she is the one that gave us this insight FWIW).

plus, my fear is that most people living in dc are already dems-- no? so the repubs may flee, but do any of them send their kiddies to dc private schools anyway?

At the risk of being labelled "naive," if we're on the wait list, shouldn't that trump any political types who will be flocking into our city soon after the election? Can the even apply to these schools off season? By the way, what's a "floating" spot?

There is no order to the waitlist (i.e., a queue). Yes, they can apply and get admitted off season.
