Should we give flowers for elementary graduation?

Anonymous
DS is graduating from elementary school tomorrow. I told DH we should pick up some flowers and he said that no one will bring flowers to an elementary school graduation.

Do people give flowers at an elementary school graduation?

No flowers for the student. But it might be nice to give to the teachers.

I would but probably no one else would. I gave my DD and her friend a bouquet for competing in the science fair. No one else did.

DD graduated today. We have her flowers and there were other kids who got flowers as well (mostly girls though, I don’t think I saw any boys with flowers).

Most girls I saw received flowers.

For a boy? No. Go for ice cream afterwards.

No, they're not graduating.

The only kid to get flowers at our kindergarten graduation today was a boy. OP, we do flowers for performances/recitals but not graduations. We do give teachers flowers all the time though. Whenever it’s a birthday or teacher appreciation week every student brings in one flower to make a bouquet

+1. No flowers for a promotion ceremony

There will likely be at least one or two other families with flowers for a girl. You can decide for yourself if that’s something your kid would like!

Listen to your DH! Anything other than high school and college graduations are ridiculous.

Flowers do not have a gender other than what we as a society have created. Everyone can see beauty in flowers not just girls/women.
Having said that, I didn’t get my kid anything for 5th grade promotion.

If you want to give your kid flowers and you think they would like it, and it would communicate to them that you are happy/proud of them, then do it. Who cares what other people do?

I find the idea that there is a "correct" way to celebrate your kid finishing elementary school really weird, and I especially don't get the people who are like "it doesn't matter, do nothing." Of course finishing elementary is not as big a deal as graduating high school or college. That's fine. But there's not some rule that people only receive flowers if they do something that really impresses you. I've given people flowers for appearing in terrible plays where they were actively bad. It's just a nice thing to do and it makes someone feel good, plus then you take them home and put them in a vase and when you see them you think "ah, someone loves me." That's what flowers are for. It's not some special reward for only very specific academic achievements. Lighten up, folks.

Do what you want to do - we just came from DS's elementary "graduation" and I saw a wide-range of gifts. Boys were mostly given balloons. DS got a hug and a "great job." LOL
