The control line is the control line. It should not get darker or lighter at least within the same package, but may vary if compared to a different batch from a different package. And, the test line may or may not get darker with an increase in your hcg level. Pee sticks are not quantitative tests. A variation in color can occur from a change in the concentration of your urine (e.g. peeing too soon after fluids) showing a lighter line when your hcg may be rising. And, it could also show darker when you have a greater concentration of urine but the hcg level hasn't changed.
I really wouldn't read much into the sticks for anything other than to tell you that you are pregnant. Beyond that, you are spending money for unreliable information and that same money could be put towards a blood test and an u/s that can give you much more reliable information. I should know, as I have wasted a fortune on the sticks when I have been pregnant and realize now that they told me nothing!
