Help choosing new club

2013Boy looking to switch clubs. Current team is dissolving next year. Is on first team out of 2. Need to be close due to work commitment. Choices are
Gunston 2nd team (out of 3)
SYC 4th team out of 5.

Syc tryouts were a mad house. Gunston seemed more manageable but less participants.

Curious of pro/con of each or general advice is cool.

I am not a VA soccer parent, but I'd certainly get info about who is coaching and base it off of that (plus commute.)

What color is the SYC team?

Less familiar with Gunston, but I have a son who has played against a bunch of SYC teams (with friends on some of the top ones), and they’re generally very skilled.

Agree that it’s ideal to learn more about the coaches if you can.

Its SYC Orange but SYC inserted a new level and renamed the teams - They are good at that it appears so the current year is:
Academy, Blue, Orange White

Next year
Pre MLS Next, Per MLS Next 2, Blue, Orange, White

Seems that the coaches are relatively new so I think its more of a toss-up.

Just checked and I’m not familiar with those coaches, sorry.

I will say that one of my son’s friends moved up a level between fall and spring, so there does seem to be movement between teams at SYC, if that’s helpful.

Find the environment that fits your kid between the two. Try to get out and into a session before the end of the year to see how they feel with the training and the players. I do know that Gunston appears to be bolstering their staff by bringing on a young and hungry coach that has a great deal of experience with younger SYC players and slotting him with a couple teams and a program coordinator role over there. Could be a good thing for their boys side.
