Dressing your kids and weather

Anonymous
Today I saw quite a few kids at daycare in sweatpants, sweatshirts, winter coats, etc. Do parents not check the weather for the day? Look outside? It's a high of 88 today. That is irresponsible and dangerous to dress your kids SO off. My kids are in shorts today with a light jacket.

My 4- year old insists on wearing her winter boots because she likes them. I pack her regular shoes so she can change for playtime. Her teachers usually send reminders when the weather is about to change.

Wouldn't this be on the daycare? Why are they putting kids in coats?

My kid wore shorts and short-sleeves and a hat (for the sun) today, but I have empathy for the parents who get it wrong because this time of year can be hard. I've never sent my kid in a winter coat on an 80 degree day (though if I did, not a big deal -- you just take it off), but I've definitely misjudged and sent them in clothes that were either too warm or not warm enough this time of year. Actually I sent my kid in some of her thicker, winter-weight leggings one day last week and they were way too heavy for her by the time I picked her up. But it was in the 30s at drop off. You can't win!

Jesus. A parent in the morning rush makes a less-than-ideal clothing choice in April and you're freaking out? Lighten up. You're not perfect either.

Sweatpants in April are "irresponsible and dangerous." Get a grip!

Well you have your kids in daycare so there’s a lot to criticize you for.

It’s irresponsible and dangerous to send your kid to daycare. Take that!

My kid wanted to wear his winter coat this morning with his shorts. I assume if he gets hot he'll take it off.

Please one day my then 2 year old daughter refused to get dressed, and I had to get to work. Grabbed clothes and took her in her diaper and pj top. Brought her clothes and I assume they got her dressed, as she was dressed when I picked her up. She also lined to mix and match

Son wore authentic shorts, even during the polar vortex.

It was well below 60 this morning and I don’t send my kids out in shorts in 60 degrees. What kind of irresponsible parent are you? Or does your daycare not have kids outdoors in the morning, in which case what does it matter what the kids are wearing if they’re indoors?

Judgemental much? Why is this a problem for you?

Presumably the children weren't forced to keep their outerwear on all day.
