It's no wonder DC has no fashion sense

The link is to this week's fashion chat on the Washington Post. Land's End is referenced way too many times.

Any recommendations for other fashion blogs or chats?

I unfortunately can not offer you any suggestions, but gladly commiserate. DC is woefully un-chic. It's terrible. If I see another woman carrying a canvas tote bag (as a purse, not to the beach), I will scream. Fashion tragedy abounds here. Ugh.

There are lots of chic people here - you just need to know where to look. Part of the problem is the media here who are totally uneducated in fashion. Just because they can string a noun and verb together........

The WaPo is absolutely the worst and such a joke. Google fashion blogs - there are tons and something for everyone.

Chic in DC is the exception not the norm.

I find it very liberating that DC is not into fashion. If I lived in NYC, I would be constantly feeling bad about how I look compared to others and spend way more on clothes than I do now. But here, as long as I dress reasonably stylishly I feel like I look pretty good compared to others.

If we were all chic here you fashionistas would have no one to berate. We may be unchic but you're shallow.

Are you talking about DC-proper, or all the suburban fuddy-duddies who commute in? Lot's of fashion-forward folks in the neighborhoods. Getting off the metro on K Street, not so much.

I am definitely not on the cutting edge of fashion but even I would not look to WaPo for a good dialogue on style.

The fashionable people in DC do not go to the Washington Post for fashion ideas. Seriously.

I see the fashion in the suburbs like McLean, Alexandria, Potomac. Don't see much at all in DC.

An urban myth to think that NYers are all fashionable. They're not. They've got their share of schlumadunkus and the just plain scary.

schlumadunkus! love it, that is my new favorite word.

Ok, thanks for letting us know where you're coming from. I think when most people say "fashion", they not referring to the pages of Washingtonian Magazine.

15:58 here. Misspelled the term. It's "schlumpadunkus."

No, the fashion I see is not in Washingtonian. It's much more SATC. Not surprising given that the Neiman's at Tysons Galleria is their #2 store in the country. The entire DC area is the top region in terms of clothing sales in the US. Doesn't mean that money has taste but people spend ALOT on their clothing here.

Precisely! Old lady fashion. So much easier when you can just drop a credit card and buy a bunch of "top-name designers" like the girls from SATC--or Eddie from "Absolutely Fabulous."

Too funny!
