APS Sketchy Taylor???

On another thread about MM, someone disparaged the Taylor Elementary as to hurting housing values?? Has the school had issues?? We start Kinder next year.

It has a bad principal who got pushed out with a ton of drama. Then it had HVAC issues this year. Nothing to worry about for next year. Bad luck of that same sort could hit any APS elementary school.

Sketchy? No.

It serves one of the wealthiest populations in Arlington, not sure what is allegedly sketchy.

What is MM?

“Missing Middle.” These are housing types like duplexes, townhomes, and small garden apartment buildings. Arlington just amended the zoning code so that homes of 2-6 units can be built throughout the county. There won’t be any neighborhoods where you can only build a single family home anymore. Other types of housing are now allowed.

OP, I think NIMBY folks think MM will make Taylor sketch.

They were closed for a week for HVAC issues. That's not normal.

It turned out not to be an HVAC issue. It was an electric issue. Taylor is one of the oldest elementaries in APS. Sounds like APS now checking other schools, especially the older ones, for the same problem Taylor had.

Taylor had some issues last year with a terrible principle (who got moved to a cushy job at Syphax but then moved to Key temporarily; Not sure if they brought back the beloved principal there.) That principal (the awful one) also tried to push out a beloved reading specialist. The Principal is out; the reading specialist is back. And then this year they had the electrical problems that closed the school for a few days. But none of those are long-term issues.

Side note: Yes, Key got back our principal.

Thank goodness! I hate that our tax dollars will continue to pay for her do whatever at Syphax, but at least she’s no longer destroying teacher morale and keeping parents out of school buildings.

I encountered her at Claremont...she was terrible. Mind boggling that APS doesn't find a way to push her out.

Seems like APS just recycles them into jobs at syphax. You know the ones where they get paid for 12 months of work but are barely working more than teacher contracts.
