Help my pup doesn’t eat

Anonymous
I swear he only eats something new for one day, then has no interest in it. We have tried 4 types of kibble, dry meal mixers, wet mixers. I’m losing my mind. He’s gaining but a bit too lean. Help! Oh I’ve wet food too!

Ours is like that. Try putting shredded cheese on the food.

We do a combination of different things - kibble (also tried multiple - we soak it in a bit of water to soften it), freeze dried that we rehydrate and homemade. We add egg and cheese to it and often mix kibble, homemade, egg and cheese into an omelet.

It could be a medical problem - that’s what happened with my niece. Her dog wouldn’t eat much and it turned out to be medical. Cant recall what though.

Most dogs will eventually eat, unless they are ill. Try mixing in one or two of his favorite treats.

I used to make different combos with rice. Like ground beef and rice, chicken and rice, lamb and rice. I’d freeze the majority of what I make, and then kind of rotate them as “toppers”. My dog is a very large breed and keeping weight up early on was important to his growth so we humored him. Now that he is full ground and neutered he will eat ANYTHING

Let’s see, ours was finicky and we hit upon something she likes randomly. She would sometimes eat, sometimes not, and rarely right away. When she had a stomach bug we had to add a probiotic powder and she has had ongoing poo issues so she also has powdered Glandex on her food….but we accidentally poured water over her food one day (instead of in water bowl) and she looooooooves it. Now eats it all up right away 99% of the time. Also agree with trying mixers, a bit of rice or egg and my parents’ dogs had to have canned French cut green beans. But only French cut, not regular. Haha. So maybe if he has a favorite veg or snack.

What kind of dog? Doodles are known to be picky and grazers! Mine eats only once a day.

Have you tried changing the bowl she eats out of? or its height? that cold be a part of it

I don't believe that an otherwise healthy animal offered an adequate amount of species appropriate food will allow itself to starve. Let the puppy get hungry and it will eat.

Maybe he just doesn’t like kibble. Have you tried a gently cooked food like My Perfect Pet, A Pup Above, etc?

I do not play food games with healthy dogs. Sick/old dogs get special privileges that healthy dogs do not.

How old is the pup? What breed?

op here- as an update. Still a struggle but better. puppy will eat eventually, but not nearly as much as they require. I've tried toppers and other brands. i'm hoping this is a phase because of teething.
