Schools pushing back on new state standards

Are any other school districts besides FCPS pushing back on this?

Youngkin has removed references to MLK holiday (yet reintroduces Columbus Day), and eliminated the word fascism from the history curriculum (how does one learn WWII history), among other issues.

Making students memorize the names and spouses of elected officials is just bizarre.

But Youngkin opened schools (that were already open)!

Bizarre?

Do you know the spouses of all the U.S. Presidents that were from Virginia? Do your kids need to know that?

I think FCPS's criticisms are a bit silly, tbh. Too much content! Not enough context!

Schools have been removing content in the name of progressivism for years now, and students are showing the lack. Adding more content, to the subject of social studies and history, is a good thing. The more kids know, the more they can understand and contextualize.

How does one contextualize WWII without discussing fascism?

TIL “Hey slavery was bad” = removing content in the name of progressivism. Thanks DCUM for always lowering the bar.

MLK is required in the new standards. And re fascism, this is the language about WWII: "comparing and contrasting totalitarianism and Imperial Japan, communist Soviet Union,
and Italy and Nazi Germany".

I’m glad you agree that mention of fascism has been removed.

They didn’t include MAGAs? Weird.
