What's up with Flavio in Georgetown?

Anonymous
I went to Flavio recently on a double date, thinking Italian in Georgetown would be nice. I picked it for the group because the online reviews looked solid and there were hundreds of reviews between Yelp, Google, etc. The food was mediocre, the prices were high, the service was nowhere to be seen, and the ambience was maybe one rung above Olive Garden. What's up with this place? Why does it get such good reviews and seem to do an OK business? I suppose it's possible we just went on an off night, but pretty much everything was unimpressive. We left thinking we had to have missed something important about the mismatch between reviews and reality.

OP. Would add that I was kinda personally embarrassed at the dinner, because I usually pick the restaurants for our group and have otherwise had a good track record.

A friend dined there a few months ago and a mouse ran across the floor!

Yikes. Apparently they're opening another location in Cleveland Park: https://www.popville.com/2023/03/talea-italian-restaurant-dc/

I just don't get it.
