2.5 year old started Augmentin/Amoxicillin Clavulanate Potassium yesterday afternoon for double ear infection and pink eye. He's never taken this before and was acting fine before (we had no idea about the ear infections, brought him in only because eyelid was getting super red).
Now pretty much all day he's been throwing huge tantrums and generally acting out of control and very out of character. A Google search is yielding mixed results so just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this? Will obviously call the pediatrician in the morning but I'm 40 weeks pregnant and worried about leaving him with family while he's acting like this... so wondering how insistent I should be if they say it's just because he's in pain. He's taking motrin and tylenol and was acting totally fine before this morning. |
He's probably just tired and not feeling well, plus sometimes the anti-biotics can cause stomach aches.
In any case, I don't think there's much you can do if it is causing bad behavior. It might be a tough couple weeks with being sick, and the new baby coming, but if he's with family he'll be totally fine in the long term. It's okay to have a few bad days! |
My 2.5 year old acts insane on amoxicillin. He will be on day 8 or 10 or whatever and totally over the ear infection (or whatever necessitated it) and he’s a tantrum monster still on it. Back to normal self as soon as he’s off. Could just be coincidence with developmental stages but that’s been my experience the few times we’ve needed it this year. |
Wow I’m so glad I saw this. My kid is on amoxicillin for the first time and I’ve had to pick him up early from school everyday. |
