HOYAlert? Georgetown?

Anonymous
Just received a text from HOYAlert to test the University system.

My child has applied to Georgetown but hasn't gotten a decision....

Is this some random spam text? Or is this maybe a sign of acceptance - like they entered our family stats into their system and forgot to delay when it became active?

Got the same msg.

Your info was probably on the application and tue accidentally sent it to every cell on file. I wouldn’t read into it.

Queue the Georgetown Hater with inaccurate information, and why they would not go to Georgetown, even though it has nothing to do with them.

this was a system test.

Yes - we assumed it was a system test - but it seems strange that undergrad applicant families would be part of that test. But it also seems strange to add accepted students to this system before they have formally agreed to enroll at Georgetown.

In an update, not all Georgetown applicants on College Confidential got the text....and one person identified as getting a more specific (true incident related) text a few weeks ago (that we did not receive).

It's all very curious - time will tell...

I can’t imagine they would bother to add all applicants to an email alert list. Hope it works out, good luck!

Is your number new? maybe the number was enrolled in the system before? my kid got in EA and didn't get a text.

OP here.

Yes mobile number was on application

No, it isn't a new number.

Mystery for sure...but decisions in next week and a half!

My kid applied RD, and I have never received a single email or text at any time from GU...is that a bad sign?

All we can do is report back after decisions and we can see whether the text was a sign

Georgetown is so old school, and so by the book, I just cannot believe the admissions office would let this happen... accidentally inform admitted students by way of emergency alert text. No way. Just a weird mistake.

Of course it is a mistake - nobody who isn't already connected to the university should have gotten this text.

The question is - what is behind the mistake. (which none of us know) Since not all applicants have gotten the text the two most likely candidates are that a random sampling of applicants were included or that students who are in the system as officially accepted students were included.

OP here - just received a real HOYAlert about a fire evacuation of a building. Not a test.
