MD - selective service registration

DC turned 18 last month. Does he need to do anything to register for selective service or is it automatic if you are registered to vote?

Has to register. It’s online.

Should people wait until 30th birthday or whichever day their prefrontal cortex develops fully to get crucial permissions like their driver's license, voting registration, gun license, drinking permit, sex permit, marriage license and military registration?

You have to register before you turn 26. After that, you cannot register for Selective Service. According to the sss.gov website, you can be imprisoned and fined if you don’t register, but that seems highly unlikely. I think this would mainly come up if you are trying to apply for federal civil service jobs.

In the meantime, you wouldn't be able to get student loans.
