Curious about your experience and if it was better. What did you notice that was different?
Assuming you meant leave? We did and it’s been a great experience. I recommend looking at schools and touring them.
DCPS has only one high school that DCUM thinks acceptable (whether SWW still qualifies is in doubt with the new application system). MCPS has more than one. Moving to MCPS will allow you to choose which high school will best fit your needs, rather than the one high school DCPS offers.
Which MCPS high schools would a person in this situation likely target?
Great questions. For us it would be the schools closest to DC which means BCC or Whitman. We are not the original poster and our inbound school is Jackson read. We did not do the walls application and here it is a mess and a total lottery.
We moved to MCPS from DC for middle school. Kids got into the Takoma park magnet and the Blair magnet. There’s nothing comparable in DC. It was a good decision.
We moved but don’t have one in HS yet. I’d say that MCPS is considerably more even than DCPS and that MCPS is generally much better than the EOTP schools that most kids go to in DCPS. Nonetheless, it’s far from perfect here. If I could donut again, I would have stayed in our EOTP neighborhood and just gone to private — the amount of money we spent to move to Bethesda wild have been better spent on private, and we would still get to live in DC.
