How to block inappropriate websites on MCPS chrome book

Anonymous
Caught my 7th grader watching corn hub on her chrome book all day yesterday while she was supposed to be recuperating from an illness. Don’t think we have the ability to block websites on school issued chrome books. Surprised that MCPS allows this.

Uh, I would definitely have thought MCPS disabled or blocked that site by default!

What's corn hub?

You need to notify the school. Those websites are supposed to be blocked.

Depending on your home internet router, you likely have the ability to do some blocking/filtering there but you'd need to google or youtube on how to do this or outsource to someone who knows how.

Drive to Rockville headquarters and get the chromebook switched out. They'll ask you why and be horrified it's that. That sort of issue makes the news, so a word in the ear of the WaPo or other local news will make MCPS deal with it faster. It happens regularly, with all school systems, but it's a PR nightmare, so there's leverage here.

You cannot block websites. The MCPS office that is supposed to block websites hardly even responds to school administrator requests. As a parent you hardly have any sway.

Blocking doesn't happen at home, only at school sites using the schools' internet connections or GoGuardian at school.

They are not. The MS kids all know about pornhub and how to access it on the Chromebooks. And it’s not just that site, there are plenty of others.

LOL

No, no they won’t. I have a son in MS and we had had many discussions about this. Not sure about the girls, but the boys are all looking at this stuff, or at least have seen it, via friends, etc. Teachers and staff are well aware of the issue.

Get her your own computer or tablet. You cannot control MCPS one.

How the hell is porn accessible on the school chromebooks??? This is insane. We block content on home cable, internet and phone… now we have to worry about this?

This needs to be resolved an a larger level asap.

This. We purchased a separate laptop for DC. But, she is required to use the Chromebook at school. You can put limits on your own laptop.

MCPS doesn't do enough to block inappropriate content for kids, even in ES. Our ES used GoGuardian, but it wasn't enough.

The kids are all looking at it at school too. Trust me - I was shocked too. But this is what happens when you switch to Chromebooks
