Ward 3 for Gray!!??

Anonymous
The Ward 3 Dems had a straw poll last week, but the count was delayed because of eligibility questions. It just came out, with Gray slightly ahead of Fenty! I thought Ward 3 was the bastion of Fenty support -- although it might just mean Gray's campaign is better at getting out the vote for these meetings. Anyway, it looks good for Gray.

Kwame Brown and Mary Cheh won the 75% necessary for endorsement. Phil Mendelson came close to endorsement, way ahead of Clark Ray, but Michael Brown came in second and denied Phil the 75%; the kicker is that this was not Councilmember Michael Brown, but Shadow Senator Michael Brown -- I wonder if the voters knew this.

Finally, the biggest shocker was that Doug Sloan, althought shy of 75%, came in way ahead of Eleanor Holmes Norton for Congressional Delegate!

It's less than 350 votes in a ward that will have at least 10 times that many on election day. It seems that DC political activists are always out of touch with the mainstream voters. Sadly, I am generally among those who are out of touch and my candidates rarely win.

I agree that it's not a representative sample. But it still surprises me that the Green Machine could not do better. Maybe when the spending really gets underway ...

Yes, I was surprised too!

Polls, schmolls. What do people think of yard signs? I'm ward 1 but kids in ward 3 school and I'm surprised at how many Gray yard signs on our commute. On recent drive through ward 4 it looked like a house to house battle of the signs. One house had both! Lol. For now, I'm happily undecided, but leaning pro Gray just to avoid all the council conflict with Fenty for a few years. Two Fenty people have come by and both seemed kind of weirded out when I said undecided. One was outright anti incumbent Graham as well. (um, ok, interesting strategy...)

What's up with the Michael Browns? I can't stand the turncoat daddy's coattails one. I probably wouldn't have noticed a difference. I love EHN after what she did during control board days. I would much rather see her retire than ever vote against her.

Ah the joys of DC.
