Can anyone offer any feedback? Also, any feedback on the general neighborhood. We are considering a house there, and can't put a finger on the area. Family friendly? Kid friendly? Thanks! |
a friend of mine lives there with her family and raves about the neighborhood school and pool....(the pool is in the neighborhood and apparently many of the kids belong to the swim team, etc.)....I think there may be an issue with the middle school but not sure? but I have only heard great things about Stonegate ES and have actually looked at the neighborhood myself... |
I live in 20905. Elementary school is great. Neighborhood is filled with lots of SAHMs, which means there is a lot of parent involvement in the schools. Also means that PTA id clicky, but if you can look past how you feel to what's good for your kids, it's not a big deal because the PTA does great things for the school and the kids. Principal does amazing things in terms of getting resources for the kids and being responsive to the concerns of the parents. Real open door policy. Hope she doesn't leave for many years. Many of the parents who work part time, substitute teach so if you are friends with them, you get a window on the life of your kid in school. Middle school is either White Oak or Farquar (spelling) depending on where you live. White Oak reportedly had some problems in the past, but with a new principal a few years back, things changed and people are really happy with it now.
If I were going to give the neighborhood one criticism it is this. No one lets their kids play outside or do very much independently. |

PP, do you know why this is so? Are there any 'safety' concerns in the neighborhood? I am not trying to label the area, but we are coming from a neighborhood where we can literally leave our storm doors unlocked during the day, and kids come and go, even as young as 6. If it's just a style issue, fine. But if there are safetly concerns, I'd like to hear about them. Thanks! |
21:35 here. I'm assuming that you are looking at Stonegate or Naples Manor in the 20905 zipcode. There are absolutely no safety concerns whatsoever with the exception of traffic on the one main street in the development. Unless we aren't home, it would never occur to me to lock our doors until we go to bed at night. That parents don't let their kids play outside or do much independently is just the style of the neighborhood - one that my kids don't embrace. They are always out running around, riding their bikes to friends' houses, etc. and they like when I leave them unplanned time so that they can hang with their friends without me. |
Thank you. I appreciate your comments. |
