Dilbert getting yanked from newspapers nationwide due to racist comments by Scott Adams

Anonymous
Wow, Adams - a prominent early Trump supporter - went on a full racist tirade on his podcast this week.

He really hates black people:

“I would say, based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people,” the 65-year-old author exclaimed. “Just get the f#ck away. Wherever you have to go, just get away. Because there’s no fixing this. This can’t be fixed.”

Reiterating that whites need to “escape,” Adams said that he had already done so by moving to an area “with a very low Black population.” He then cited Black CNN anchor Don Lemon to justify his assertion that there’s a “correlation” between a “mostly Black” neighborhood and “a bunch of problems he didn’t see” in majority-white areas.

“So I don’t think it makes any sense as a white citizen of America to try to help Black citizens anymore,” Adams huffed. “It doesn’t make sense. There’s no longer a rational impulse. So I’m going to back off on being helpful to Black America because it doesn’t seem like it pays off.”

He continued: “The only outcome is I get called a racist. That’s the only outcome. It makes no sense to help Black Americans if you’re white. It’s over. Don’t even think it’s worth trying.”

Hundreds of newspapers have dropped Dilbert permanently.

Yes, I saw that earlier today, and mentioned it in an Off Topic post. I’m pleasantly surprised that the cartoon is getting yanked from so many papers. I’m glad that the “only outcome “ of being called a racist has also had a concrete financial and social impact.

I wonder what Adams thinks he’s actually done to “help Black citizens” that he now plans to stop doing?
On the one hand, I got chills reading his matter-of-fact comments. On the other hand, there are a lot of people like him out there, and they now feel emboldened to speak out openly. I guess I’d rather know who they are upfront than guess about it.

Just saying the quiet part out loud. He’s absolutely vile. That was beyond offensive.

Was he trying to be satirical? What brought on his rant? Who even asked him for help?

I used to read his comics and thought they were hilarious. I had no idea he was such a nutjob.

Good. He is hateful trash.

Holy $h!t. That was horrible.

Too bad, Dilbert was a hilarious cartoon. But I won't read it again without thinking about what an a-hole the author is. It makes me sick that there are people who think that these are perfectly acceptable views to spout out loud.

His cynicism about the world got the best of him.

.

This is a little more than an “off day.”

For context, the entire piece begins at 13:23 and lasts for 7.5 minutes.

Remember a decade ago on MetaFilter when someone posted an article about Scott Adams — I think it was somewhat critical— and then a few new people registered on the site to say how much they loved Scott Adams and defend him, and then Scott Adams himself joined MetaFilter to make fun of the people who were criticizing him, and then it turned out that Scott Adams had made a bunch of sock puppet accounts to praise himself, because he was that thin skinned and unable to take criticism?

It’s because of MetaFilter that I’ve known for about a decade now that Scott Adams is a dick. Thanks, MetaFilter.

“As you know, I’ve been identifying as Black for awhile….” WTF?

So basically, when I go to a job interview, and the interviewer is an old white guy, I know that there’s a very real possibility that this is the script that MIGHT be running through his head. This is, however, the first time that I’ve heard an old white guy both voice his enthusiasm for never ever helping someone Black while ALSO claiming to have identified “as Black for a while.” I guess it’s harder and much more complex to be a rich old influential white guy than I realized.

I learn a lot via DCUM.

That guy has been saying for years that UPN canceled his TV show because he’s white and not for terrible ratings. It’s very far from just one “off day.”

WOW OP! I ***LOVE*** JUST how you didn't post the whole entire story. Just cherry picked what you wanted to get out there for shock value. His comments were in a reply to a poll taken. Right or wrong--you should have put the whole story out there OP not just the part for your agenda.

"Adams' initial remarks came in response to a conservative Rasmussen Poll that appeared to show that 26% of Black respondents said they disagreed with the statement "It's okay to be white." Another 21% said they were not sure." 47% of blacks polled think it's NOT ok to be white. So he was upset about that and ran this mouth. Not ok at all, but tell the full story OP.
