Help a foreigner - what does 'curly cut' mean?

Is it US hairdresser speak for 'cut for Black hair' or is it literally a haircut for curly hair of any type?

Cuts related to curly hair - irregardless of race. The Deva Cut is a famous “curly cut” for example. A few others have become popular since Deva came out. Fiddleheads salon (if they are still around) was a place for curly hair.

Curly- or wavy-specific haircut that will bring out and support your natural hair pattern, regardless of race or ethnicity.

I'm a curly girl, who gets a curly cut, by a Deva trained stylist. They cut your hair when it's dry, not wet

A "curly cut" just means that the cut is intended to look best when your hair is worn naturally curly, as opposed to straight. The cuts typically are more heavily layered to prevent flat roots or a triangular shape. Many stylists have no idea how to do this, even though it really isn't difficult.

+1 It's usually done on dry hair so the stylist can better see the pattern and make cuts based on how/where/how much the hair curls. I always wash my hair the morning I go to the stylist and style it the way I usually do, using my regular products so she can see how it usually looks.

As an aside, the 'curly cut' is not new. I'm in my mid-50s and was getting dry cuts in my mid-teens. The only time it wasn't cut dry is when it was really short and the curl pattern not really an issue.

Can someone recommend a good curly cut salon in Nova?

NP-Can you help this straight haired mom help her 2C daughter? (best guess) her dad has 3C curls.

Will a curly hair cut stop the weekly de-matting sessions we are currently going through on her hair? It’s practically dreaded by day 3 of wearing it down.

Detangle and comb through Every! Single! Day! You can also wet + condition + comb through in the shower. Don't wash more than 2x/week.

She shouldn't be going 3 days without combing/detangling.

Oh--that makes more sense. I thought it was a reference to the hair style of one of the Three Stooges.

No a cut won't stop that. She should probably wear it braided or you should wash/comb out more often. Keeping it trimmed does help but curly hair is gonna tangle.

It’s a fancy way to say lots of layers

Umm, no. I have long curly hair and never comb or brush it. Finger through with conditioner daily, wash 2-3 times per week. No mats, just gorgeous curls that are frequently complimented

Get a curly hair cut and use curly hair products

Look finger combing is combing. I didn't say to brush it. Obviously don't brush it. But please detangle the girl's beautiful hair every day.
