Peeing Ove The Seat

Anonymous
My daughter has recently begin peeing over the top of the toilet seat at times when she goes to the bathroom. The stream usually ends up all over her pants/underwear resulting in a need for a change of clothes. Sometimes she does just fine getting it in the bowl, but other times it shoots almost straight out. Anyone else see this issue with their daughter? Any ideas? I know boys sometimes have this issue for obvious reasons but I didn't ever expect this from a little girl.

How old is she? I’ve definitely had mine go off in different directions at times for no logical reason. Have her lean forward a bit more so the stream goes further back.

How old is she, and does she have a kids potty seat to go over the main seat? If she's too small for the main seat she might be sitting/balancing in such a way that the pee doesn't go down.

This is so gross OP I just can’t

One of mine learned that if she really needs to pee she has to slightly push down her vulva or lean over, otherwise it comes straight forward. The other girl never had this problem.

Just recently? Sounds like it’s time to teach her to do laundry and clean the toilet/bathroom.

I think this happens when they’re getting too big for the seat reducer insert. If she can balance, switch to the regular seat. If she’s too small, have her sit back further and teach her to push her vulva down. It’s surprisingly common with 3-4 year old girls.

OP here: My daughter is 5, and yes this is a new recent development, although she was late to potty train. She is just using the regular seat, not a child seat since that is what she prefers.

Are you saying to literally have her press down on the top of her vulva? Seems odd but we can give it a try and see.

I’d suggest she lean slightly forward.

Are you a parent? Kids are gross. Bodies in general can be gross.

She needs to lean forward a bit and have something to put her feet on. She’s too little and she’s leaning back because she’s probably putting her hands behind her to keep her little bum from falling in.

My daughter went through this! Make sure she is spreading her legs apartment and leaning forward a little bit. When my daughter did this it was because she was not opening her legs at all and sitting up straight. She also wasn't pulling her pants and underwear down over knees, so they were ON the seat.
