My husband and I went and food was decent, but they were completely disorganized so it was cold. Our waitress ignored us so another waiter took care of us and was nice about it waiting for the waitress to take us and she kept blowing us off... it was not a cheap place for such bad service. A manager kept going to every table but ours. We asked for a quiet table as it was the first dinner out without our son/our anniv. and they put us next to an extremely loud/noisy group after even acknowledging our request as they had us wait 10 minutes saying they were very busy when the place was 1/2 full. Menu was a little different which was a nice change. It was ok... but not worth going back given the price.
I think it is great for Silver Spring to have a new fresh restaurant, however, it was too expensive for the location and how much they serve. It would likely be more successful if it was located downtown DC, but not in Silver Spring. The atmosphere is great though.
We used to go to Nicaro often, when this chef owned it. I'd put the quality of the food at 8407 Kitchen Bar a bit higher than at Nicaro. As another poster said, the atmosphere is fairly upscale and hip, which is welcome in downtown Silver Spring. (Though we used to take our DC to Nicaro and I don't think we'd do that at 8407.) The weak link was definitely the service. We've only been once and we'll go again, but I think we'll wait until they iron the kinks out of the service. I'm glad to have 8407 in Silver Spring.
