Sure, you don't want to be competitive, and your children would be outcompete by Chinese in China. But at least you get to pick up your child in 10 minute so that's the most important thing.

I see someone is hitting the Chardonnay tonight.

China does prioritize education way more than we do. Unforutunately in a global economy, that is a boon for them, and a challenge for us.

We can't rest on our laurels forever. If we ever let them import their EVs into the US, our auto industry is done and so the is our industrial base.

And sending kids to Western HS will somehow lower their education?? Do you hear yourself?

We don’t want to be anything like communist China. The Chinese make their kids go to Saturday school. Their kids are so stressed out.

Feel free to move to China if you prefer their education system.

All I am saying is we prefer education quality over bus commute. That is a reasonable position. Nothing to put down on Western HS, but it's an unknown with teachers, sports and activities (including STEM competition which is important in college application). Bus commute is not a concern for crossfield parents. So if you are not in crossfield, don't worry about us, we'll manage.

Should everyone in the county who would rather attend a school further away than the one closest to them get that choice? Or just you?

Honestly, that’s not a winning argument.

Here are the real reasons why Crossfield should be excluded.

Relief
FCPS’s own study does NOT show Oakton needing relief. Reid has repeatedly said the new Western HS is intended to relieve Westfield, Chantilly, and Centreville. Any relief to Oakton and South Lakes is purely optional.

Split feeder patterns
If they go with Option B and moves Oak Hill to Carson and Crossfield to Franklin, Carson’s split feeder mess would be 100% solved.

Distance
Crossfield is farther from Western HS than Floris, Coates, McNair, Oak Hill, AND Fox Mill. The entire Crossfield boundary sits east of Route 286, forcing every bus to cross that busy road twice a day.

Remember the distance from Crossfield to Oakton is NOT a stated consideration for Western HS boundary; it's just what McDaniel is preaching.

October 23 presentation states the FCPS boundary review process for Western High School is designed to reduce
overcrowding in our western high schools, with the goal of balancing student capacity.

In addition, this review will:
● Seek to eliminate attendance islands
● Reduce split feeder patterns wherever feasible
● Provide access to programming

DP. Absent a necessary boundary adjustment (eg Coates) anyone who bought into that school pyramid, yes.

FCPS’s own study does NOT show Oakton needing relief. Reid has repeatedly said the new Western HS is intended to relieve Westfield, Chantilly, and Centreville. Any relief to Oakton and South Lakes is purely optional.

More recent information shows Oakton to be filing up quickly. New construction is currently in the area and it will explode with the development of the ATT site. Within 3 years, Oakton will be overcrowded. It is currently over 2700.

Split feeder patterns
If they go with Option B and moves Oak Hill to Carson and Crossfield to Franklin, Carson’s split feeder mess would be 100% solved.

But, they are currently at Carson, so going to KAA means no split feeder for them.

Distance
Crossfield is farther from Western HS than Floris, Coates, McNair, Oak Hill, AND Fox Mill. The entire Crossfield boundary sits east of Route 286, forcing every bus to cross that busy road twice a day.

LOL! They do this going to Carson, presently. And, if they were switched to Franklin, they would also have to cross 286. Which would you rather face? 50 and 66 or 286? Or, over the narrow, windy roads to Oakton? Most of Crossfield's membership lives in Franklin Farm which is 2-3 miles from KAA. Oakton is 10 miles.

Remember the distance from Crossfield to Oakton is NOT a stated consideration for Western HS boundary; it's just what McDaniel is preaching.
It is a fact.

If they put Fox Mill at KAA, they will likely need to put Crossfield at South Lakes--since it is already a split feeder. That will not be as close to most of Crossfield students as KAA.

Fox Mill should stay at SLHS for the same reason (eg Coats)

Request AP at SLHS so that family can stay for IB, and AP.

Look, we all know who you are and you're not even a Crossfield parent. You are a Navy parent. If you wanted your kids to go to Oakton and Navy so bad, you should have bought a house in Navy boundaries instead of hoping and wishing your child would get into Crossfield AAP so you can send them to Navy. Anyway you are absolutely wrong. The vast majority of my neighbors want our kids to go to KAA instead of Oakton - the bus drive DOES matter for us. If you're not concerned about the commute then you can find a way to opt in to Oakton and drive your child there and back. But stop saying you represent all Crossfield families when we all know you represent a small subset of Asian families who send their kids to Navy AAP because you didn't even think the Crossfield AAP program was good enough for your kid.

Oh look, a PTO mama showed up. Option B does NOT have Crossfield moving to Franklin. You made that up. STOP LYING TO CROSSFIELD FAMILIES.

Why are they waiting until June to make boundary decisions for Western High school? It should come B comprehensive boundary vote. This makes no sense at all.

So, let's say Fox Mill kids "opt in" but then don't get "in boundary" and boundary remains South Lakes. Or, Crossfield kids "opt in" and then don't get in boundary and remain Oakton.

Why are they doing it this way?
Please, someone, explain it to me.

What do these people have for brains?

Does anyone know when the decision is expected to be made?

I’m pretty sure I know the answer and wholeheartedly agree with you.

How long is the US ride to Oakton?

I keep hearing people complaining but anyone have data? FCPS makes it hard to track

As an aside there were White people who spoke out at the meeting who wanted to stay at Oakton. Not sure why you're harping on the Asian thing.

I would assume those kids who opted in would get to stay at Western HS for the duration of their high school years. I wonder then if a younger sibling would also get to opt in to Western (assuming they are both attending at same time)? And could a kid who opted in then opt back out and go to base school if they decided to do that after a year or two?

All this mess because they are afraid of certain parents.

At the community meeting, they said February.

I was talking about this ONE specific parent and group of people. The people who are "rooted in Oakton" are as white as white can be.
