This will almost certainly rule out Democrats. The last election is the first time I voted Republican and I don't feel even a little bit bad about it.

I think there are a lot of Democrats who feel like you. The issue is that these are two issues where Democrats are perceived as liars (they refuse to acknowledge what voters see is the truth), and that is devastating in a presidential campaign. I don’t know how this will resolve.

Oh, I know for a fact there are a lot who feel like me. In fact, I'm in a swing state and I know it is a big reason why Democrats lost the state. I'm fine with Democrats pretending otherwise and continuing to lose. I went from having to turn away volunteers for Biden's ground operations here in 2020 for fear of violating our Covid rules to not being able to get anyone to pick up my phone call without transgender ideology coming up within the first 5 minutes. The level of hostility that Biden and then Harris's people higher up in operations showed whenever I pointed out that our own volunteers are bothered by this trans madness was so unhinged that I ended up quitting without a farewell email. I wasn't going to keep tolerating getting chewed out because I can't gaslight the faithful into believing that "Rachel" Levine - father of 3 and graduate of Harvard college when it was all male - is a "woman."

Until Democrats return whichever nutjob donor's money they took to stand on such a crazy issue, there's nothing more to see here. Polls will continue to accurately show that the public hates Trump, Democrats will continue to be able to win here and there during midterms, AND they will continue to lose in fashion on the national level. You're not achieving any kind of national unity when the "rights" of "Lia" Thomas are what you stand for. A multicultural coalition of people will join together to tell you and your transvestites to f--k off...as they should.

I don’t think trans is going to have much impact on the next presidential race. People really hate Trump and their lives are worse now between economic instability, ICE raids on neighbors, and just the general exhaustion and corruption that comes with Trump.

That having been said, I do think it’s a bigger issue than Democrats want to think because it goes to credibility. There are two major issues where Democrats are perceived as liars, and those are immigration and trans issues. In a tight race, credibility matters. I’m just not sure the next presidential race will be tight because Trump is so disliked.

You're not getting that people can hate Trump and still hate Democrats more. They can despise the Republican party's approach to deporting undocumented immigrants while despising Democrats even more for lying about the problem, worsening it and having no plan whatsoever to fix it. They can despise the Republicans on abortion, but hate the Democrats more on women's rights because inventing a human right for men to self-identify as women is the greater daily threat to a greater number of women. They can hate Trump's pandering to Israel while hating Democrats more for lying about being the party of human rights when they're in genocidal Israel's pocket as well.

Democrats like you don't want to understand that "voters hate Trump" says nothing about what voters think about you. It's the latter that will decide your fate.

Mkay. Cope harder. If they think that Trump=republicans which all the recent elections show they do then for now all the dems have to do is keep being hated slightly less to win elections. You guys are cooked for the next four years. Miami has the first dem mayor in decades, NJ and VA governors races were a bust.

DP. You are dim. The person you are responding to isn’t a trump supporter. If Dems actually listened to what that poster is saying, we wouldn’t have Trump.

PP knows this. Pretend pretending that everyone who makes valid points about Democrats is MAGA is the latest ploy. Before that, you were on Putin's payroll and helping spread Russia disinformation. Before that, you were "alt-right." Before that, you were a white supremacist having a meltdown because a Black man was president.

Everyone who will not obey Democrats' donor-dictated agenda is a racist. If they're a person of color, then they're a homophobe. If they are a gay person of color, then they're an Uncle Tom. If they're gay person of color with strong connections to their community, then they're not very smart and are a sad, confused example of how the American education system fails people of color and why Democrats must be in charge to fix it. There's always some dishonest, mean-spirited, identity-based calumny. I moved in those circles for years and I know a talking point from the higher ups when I come across it.

This board has been so compromised by Democratic operatives that half of the traffic to the politics forum probably consists of people paid to keep DC-area and DC-adjacent women in line.

You sound unhinged

I’m not the PP but it is accurate that Democratic strategists have employed a strategy of name-calling in an effort to shut down even the mildest questioning of strategy. Racist, MAGA, transphobe, misogynist, etc. are all used so freely by the far left wing of the Democratic party in an effort to stifle discussion that the unfortunate side effect is that they’ve empowered actual MAGA to absolutely minimize the impact of the words. If everything, including policy disagreement, is racist/MAGA/tranphobic/etc. nothing is.

More Republicans have to learn how to have fun going back at him. Stop being afraid and shove the bully back. He gets off on threatening people who don’t agree with him. Well, push him right back. Hard. Make him stumble and crap
His pants. They need to stop being scared of the demented tangerine and enjoy the feeling of giving him the middle finger. If I were in Indiana, I’d be exhilarated my state was telling rich bone spurs boy to fxk off.

Can we please get back to the latest bets on who the democratic candidates will be?

Seems like we have:

- two being fiery, mainstream-ish potentials in Newsome and Kelly,
- a kinda-sorta Trump appeaser in Whitmer who made some bad choices with social media posts but is well-liked in Michigan,
- AOC, a progressive darling, Bernie successor,
- Buttigieg, a milquetoast Midwesterner,
- Shapiro, with the Israel albatross around his neck,
- Harris, with the Biden albatross around her neck,
- ????

I still leave open a possible celebrity candidate.

AOC, Whitmer, Newsom, Crockett. Why wait for an election? Let’s get to work on Mt. Rushmore 2.0 for these 4 mental heavyweights RIGHT NOW!!
Anonymous
If they were smart, they would attract an independent-minded Republican with moderately liberal beliefs like Nick Fuentes to run.

Kelly has a great resume. And is an honorable and decent man who clearly wants to do the right thing. But he's not good on tv. He doesn't have the charisma that projects - like an Obama or Bill Clinton. And that's a liability in this media-saturated world.

Newsom is like Bill Clinton. Charismatic. Sharp. And he will f%$k anyone in a skirt - the Trump women, his staffers, the wives of his staffers. And in his down time, he spends his hours online trolling, which I get is a useful skill these days. But do we really want to go down this road in 2028? A Newsom candidacy will be an absolute sh%tshow. I'm old enough to remember bimbo eruptions. I get that Trump is many times worse, but do Democrats really want to follow that with a skeezy candidate themselves? I do believe that after Trump, a wholesome family person with a solid marriage is going to be a much stronger candidate.

Pritzker's problem is that he was born a billionaire. He inherited the Hyatt fortune. I think we all recognize that we need less billionaires in politics. His fortune will be put under the microscope, and I'm sure there will be many questionable things. Plus, come on, the middle class is struggling with how to pay the mortgage/rent, food bills, car payments, health insurance, college etc. Pritzker has no idea what that's like. He's too rich to click with middle class issues.

AOC is 36. Too young. And a lightening rod for conservatives. But she is super charismatic and quick. Maybe in some years, after she takes Schumer's seat as senator for NY.

Beshear is the governor you want when your neighborhood has been flooded. Competent. Well-meaning. Clearly a good dude. But there is no gravitas or spine with this guy. He will get wrecked in a meeting with Putin or Xi. The presidency of the United States is not his place.

I don't know what happened to Whitmer. Some serious missteps. It's like she decided to lean into the sorority girl theme. Which was a mistake. Not a credible candidate.

I am not seeing a viable, successful candidate at this moment in time. Democrats aren't running against Trump in 2028. Given the trajectory of his polls, my dog will be able to defeat Trump in 2028. But if Republicans choose someone reasonably sane like a Nikki Haley or Marco Rubio, Democrats really need to come up with someone good to win. Not seeing it yet.

Why is AOC even on the list?

Democrats are desperate for a savior to lead them to the promised land.

Terrible summary.
Nearly every weakness you ascribe to Democrats could be assigned equally to Republicans. Pritzger is an out-of-touch billionaire? What do you think the entire Republican brand represents? Newsome likes the ladies? MAGA shields child rapists.

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Democrats ARE running against Trump in 2028. Whoever the Republican nominee is will have to defend his record, since they kneeled to him for the last four years. Nearly any of thd Democrats you list (except maybe for AOC) would be able to dispatch Rubio or Vance with ease.

I don’t see how Newsom avoids the videos of the devastation of parts of LA and SF.

Relative to Trump and Biden, these four are indeed heavyweights! We literally can't do any worse in 2028 than we've done since 2016.

I like AOC or a progressive. I’ve been a so called moderate democrat my entire life, UMC educated coastal voter. But I am tired of living in a society of rich and poor/struggling. It’s abhorrent. I do not trust the Dem party elites with their consultants and cocktail parties. Enough

Kelly is the current favorite, I think.
Pritzker too.
They are both willing to fight.

I like Newsom but I can't see it.
