Would love recommendations -- Brillando vs. Casa Lala vs. any other one I haven't heard of yet
Looking for something that is relatively well organized. Thanks! |
|
you kid will forget it as soon as it's over unless you're speaking spanish at home / at preschool
it is a fools errand to think you're going to get your kid ahead in languages otherwise |
| ok, thanks for the constructive comment. we're a bilingual household so really appreciate your spending the time on the internet sharing your knowledge. extremely helpful. |
| We have limited experience with both for camps (so grain of salt). I found both to be disorganized and chaotic. My kids loved Lala and would go back. I got the sense she’s a really wonderful person (after camp was over she insisted on hand delivering something my children left there). As a parent, the chaos drove me nuts, but I felt my kids were safe and well cared for. On the other hand, i would not send my kids back to Brillando. My kids came home grouchy and overstimulated and I had some safety concerns. (Don’t want to dox myself but there was a near miss accident that they told me about later and it could have been very serious. Also totally avoidable.) |
| Pp, and you could also look at Spanish immersion year round preschools like Rosemount center. I know they sometimes let kids come for the summer only, and it’s a good alternative to camp for that age group. |
It is a constructive comment. I don't believe for one second that you're a bilingual household, because your anger at hearing the truth has made you fabricate that as a flimsy defense in your tiger mommy pursuits |
NP here You need to step TF away from the keyboard. You sound way angrier than OP (justifiably) did. - Bilingual mom |

We have had great experiences here |
LOL. DCUM never change! |
| WIS had good spanish summer camps a few years ago that that my then 4yo enjoyed. Not sure if they still run them. |
| I’m looking for the same as OP. Any recent feedback on Communikids? I really want staff to be speaking only Spanish. |
| I wish WIS still had these camps! |
Their website looks like camp is only for 5 and up. (I'm not OP but looking for the same thing.) Anyone with feedback on Isabella & Ferdinand Academia de Español? Their website is confusing to me. |
Early childhood educator here. There is TONS of research showing that early exposure to multiple languages can enhance children's communication skills, even when children are effectively monolingual. Don't discount the value of exposure and immersion at a young age, even if it doesn't stick. There is additional research showing that early exposure to multiple languages make learning languages and mastering sounds and accents in different languages easier when students get older. Learning doesn't happen in a vacuum. Music training has also been shown to enhance reading and pitch discrimination abilities in speech. |
| I actually had the opposite experience than other poster w casa lala and brillando. Brillando has been our kids (4,6) favorite camp hands down. The older kid liked Casa Lala when we did it for winter break but younger one was overwhelmed and did not like it. |
