| Would you hire for a childcare related position a candidate without specific experience (job experience as nanny, teacher etc) except being a SAHM for a long time? |
| This must be a joke. No hire someone else. |
| Lol, of course not. |
NP. I suspect it's the SAHM that started the thread. |
| Yes, childcare has been her job for many years. |
| No. Being a stay at home mom is very different than professional child care. |
| Depends on the position and also how she interviews. For a nanny, for instance, sure, I'd seriously consider hiring someone who'd been a SAHM as long as she seemed like a good fit for our family. |
| Do some of you think that every employee at a daycare center has previous experience as a nanny/teacher? Every childcare worker starts somewhere-no one is born with previous job experience. |
Child care is not a job anymore than feeding yourself makes you a chef. Y’all want to be praised for taking care of your legal obligations so damn bad. |
OP says a "childcare related position" but is not more specific than that. |
Do tell. What profession does being a stay at home mom qualify your for… other than being a stay at home mom… |
|
No, but not because of qualifications. Because of no way to verify. If you’ve been a nanny for 4 years, I can interview you, then I can call the previous family and get a reference.
With a SAHM there is no one to say how she handles kids other than herself. |
If I was hiring someone to cook for my family I would not hire a chef unless I was very rich. I would hire someone who has a lot of experience cooking for a family. Your comparison is invalid and your assessment of "y'all"s intentions is ignorant. |
| Depends on her educational pedigree, number of kids she’s had and the quality of them. |
There's no way to verify a nanny is good, either. They know how to act. You have no idea how often they use their phone when they are out. |
