Green Hedges: Is it worth commuting from Arlington then to DC for work?

Anonymous
Does anyone have any firsthand information about the strength of its program?

You may get more responses in the private school forum. With that said, I can't imagine making that commute. Will you take the metro to work?

I don't think so and we very seriously considered Green Hedges for our child.

I know people who do that to Langley in McLean, but with Green Hedges you have to fight traffic all through Vienna if you take 123. Did you consider Langley - much closer to your house and work.

My brother sent his kids there but they lived in Vienna. They liked it a lot but convenience was a big part of why they chose it. Traffic is not fun in that area.

I live about a mile from Green Hedges and I would NEVER consider commuting from Arlington to GH and then into DC.

It already takes me about an hour to get from my home to my office in DC and I can't stand it. I really can't imagine adding the additional time to come out to Vienna if I lived in Arlington, then turning around to head back to DC. The word "nightmare" comes to mind. The traffic on 123 at rush hour is bad. If you'd be getting on/off 66 at Nutley, that's pretty awful too (and once you are alone in the car w/o the kids, you can't use 66 so are relegated to 123 and/or GW Parkway - both horrendous during commuting hours).

Honestly, I guess the school has a good reputation, but I can't imagine it is worth the commute you're contemplating. Like I said, I live very close by, and I don't even know anyone who sends their kids there. I know lots of folks who send their kids to other the private schools in/around Vienna, but I would not say GH is "the" school in Vienna, by any stretch of the imagination. Surely there are other private school options much closer to you. We looked at GH for Montessori preschool/kindergarten and decided it wasn't worth the cost.
