I think you're just distracting from the problems that the Universities are. They be no saints that's for sure. Many other institutions likely have deeper issues, but I admire Trump for starting on the top on this one. I mean seriously how could you cut their budget and stop them from being Visa mills, and not get called a fascist by the college administrators? |
Harvard is not a "visa mill." That's idiotic. When you have a whole bunch of Chinese going to Southern Wichita State Polytechnic (or whatever), now that's a visa mill. How do you cut a budget and not get called a fascist? Capricious and vindictive hatchet job is certainly not the effective answer, nor the legal one. |
I don’t think this is the flex he things it is. Most skilled traders have apprenticeship programs that don’t go through these for profit trade schools. And guess what guys in the trades mostly want? To send their kids to a four year college. I work with a lot of these guys and they are all so proud and thrilled when their kids go to college. I’d have to see the details of his plan but very unclear to me that this is even a good political play for the blue collar vote. |
Nobody cares about Harvard
And Trump knows how to separate voters from the Democrats |
NYU has a larger percentage of international students, so does Indiana university. However don’t let your prejudices get in the way of reality PP. |
DP. Anecdotally, this was true in my family. Very proud to see us walk across and later hand them the college diploma. I think it was bragging rights among their friends and relatives. |
Unfortunately the optics of wealthy universities with huge endowments getting Federal funding for anything other than student aid looks bad to working and middle class Americans. |
Here’s a list of the 10 US universities with the highest number of foreign students enrolled. Harvard didn’t even make the top 10. I was surprised to see who was number one. It’s NYU—you know, where Barron Trump is enrolled. Looks like NYU is the real “visa mill.” 1. New York University - 24,496 2. Northeastern University - 20,637 3. Columbia University - 19,001 4. University of Southern California - 17,264 5. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign - 14,680 6. Purdue University - 11,872 7. University of California, Berkeley - 11,719 8. Johns Hopkins University - 9,322 9. University of California, Los Angeles - 9,725 10. Carnegie Mellon University - 9,009 |
I think the real Trump motto is MCGA (make China great again)

Federal funding produces this: https://www.nature.com/nature-index/institution-outputs/generate/all/global/all With Harvard knee-capped, China rules. |
Great we don't have to fund the research or teach the foreigners English in our classes. Let the businesses go and get their students and sponsor a green card directly then do a genuine PERM or LCA search to prove they can't find it here. Instead of bringing them here then having us train them let them do an internship or three. Oh, but now they can't find the talent. Meanwhile all of our classmates and coworkers are annoying even for the least racist of us. BTW have you actually ever read any of those Chinese journal articles? I was reviewing one. I went and did a Google search to see if they had all of the references. The authors had already published nearly the exact same paper. Like the abstract and the first two pages were exactly the same. Same authors in a different order. IMO that is the real problem with the Chinese education system. Its portfolio based instead of standardized testing based, so they can just use the same publications and portfolios over and over again. That's what I thought when I heard the Ivies were trying to get away from standardized testing. |
I think it's crazy T picking fight w Harvard. Their lawyers are the bomb. Really think they won't just pro bono helping their Alma mater out? ![]() Also, I think T going after Harvard is specifically a reaction to their rebellion. He doesn't really need to pick a fight with the other schools on limiting foreign students as he's making an example out of Harvard for their audacity to hopefully quell others from same behavior. Ultimately it's not about shutting down foreign students as it is limiting illegal immigration, his platform. It's about hurting Harvard as much as possible in any way. He's pulling all the stops and hoping to send a message. Whether something works isn't the point as it is a power play. It's a dumb strategy actually but what else can he really do. He'll lose this fight as he's just plain on the wrong side of things and let's face it - Harvard is not the institution you really want to mess with. My money is on them every time. There's a reason why they are tops. |
Is this some kind of joke? NO ONE believes the Ivies or most of the T50 are “institutions of free thought” anymore. |
I know plenty of trumpers with kids in college right now. None of them want trump wasting our time and energy with this attack on Harvard and other universities. They hate migrants. They hate immigrants. They're not too fond of dark-skinned people. But they are not interested in doing battle with Harvard University and higher education . Not at all. I don't think they get why he focuses on this of all things. This is just useless destruction. Harvard in higher education is wounded but come out the other side and go on long after Trump is gone. |
Agree that it is just useless destruction. Trump wants to demonstrate the power that he, as the autocrat US, has. And Harvard has done something to injure his fragile ego, so he wants retribution. This, apparently, is what the country voted for -- experiencing Trump's narcissistic rages on a national scale. |
