ADT vs. Ring, Simplisafe, etc.

Looking for opinions on the traditional home security companies vs the newer DIY companies. I'm inclined to try the DIY route (looked for estimates from ADT and some other companies and they gave me extremely unpleasant hard sells). But curious about others' experiences. Thanks!

We have Amazon blink and they work well. No need to pay a company except if you want the security monitoring.

SimpliSafe from Costco.

ADT will never let you cancel.

Or if you want a hardwired traditional alarm, we liked Urban Alarm

I'm getting ready to cancel ADT. My 6-year-old system has stopped working with the ADT app and now needs some kind of equipment replacement that they want to charge me for. Monthly prices keep going up to the point where I can switch to the top Ring or Simplisafe monitoring plan and still save hundreds a year, even after the cost of the system.

I've been researching and I think I'm going to go with Ring. I like SimpliSafe maybe a little better but the Ring ecosystem is bigger and will allow me to add on more smart accessories over time. My life is not exciting enough to worry about Amazon security concerns (though you should read up on that and decide for yourself if you're comfortable with the downsides).

Costco has good deals on both if you're a member.

I like Ring. Very easy to use. We pay extra for the monitoring but a lot of people don’t.

The ADT camera is not great, I've seen much better footage from the others.

Potomac Alarm uses the same Honeywell alarm equipment as ADT, but pricing is much much more reasonable. Its a small business, I think dad and son.
