I'm taking a gardening course through a program in Illinois. We have had probably half a dozen professional botonists/horticulturalists/professors as speakers so far and all of them pronounce foliage as a two syllable word. Is this right? It's so trivial but this is driving me crazy. |
Foal eee udge |
It's regional. My DH says it as 2 and I as 3. We are from different parts of the country. |
Same thing happened to me. I've always heard it as Fow Lee Eg. But I've had people swear it's FowLedge. |
Regional, both are acceptable. |
Google says 3 syllables. |
Just don't pronounce it FOIL-age. |
Foley-idge |
I grew up saying 3 syllables but since moving here, I say 2 syllables. |
"leaves" |
Foe lee edge |
Foil idge |
But this one is incorrect but interestingly said by many. The word is not Foilage, it’s foliage. |
How? |
Foal-ee-idge |
