Do APS elementary schools do anything for the 100th day of school? I heard another district family talking about how their 2nd grader was going to be dressing up for it. Haven’t heard about it yet and am wondering if it’s a thing? |
My kid in APS dressed up last year as a first grader. She loved it, but then started to feel a little self conscious since only about 8/23 kids dressed up from her class. So...I think it's a thing, but maybe not widely participated depending on the school? |
What do they dress up as?
When my kid was in 1st grade they had to bring in 100 items but no dressing up |
oh and it didn't do anything to teach her about the concept of 100 but it was fun ![]() |
Are you kidding me? Why does this merit any recognition at all? |
Our Moco ES does a big thing about it. No dressing up but activities and a mini party etc. |
ITs a big deal in first and k at our aps school. They have a party and have funny "I'll do this when I'm 100 things" |
Often this is a big celebration in kindergarten-first or second grades. It is used to encourage counting and skip counting to 100. |
100 year olds |
Yes, they do something. At our school, the younger kids make a project or bring in 100 objects. They also play math games and other activities related to the number 100. |
This whole 100th day of school celebration feels a bit like Elf on the Shelf, something rather meaningless that just creates more work for the adults. |
Just want parents need. Another dress up day when Halloween is around the corner! |
I used to be a 1st grade teacher and it was a big deal. Counting the days and talking about groups of 10 builds number sense and helps kids learn about place value, tens, and ones. |
The hundredth day generally falls in January. I’m DCPS but it can’t be that different. Certainly not near Halloween |
Agreed. We're ACPS and it's always in Jan/Feb not now. |
