Bathroom vanity sconces/lights - over mirror or on sides?

Anonymous
We are redoing our bathroom and we have 2 great mirrors to put up with a new double vanity. DH prefers to have the standard lights over the mirror look but I prefer to have the lights on the sides of the mirror.

So, for two mirrors, we'd have one sconce light on the far left, one in the middle and one on the far right.

What say you?

Will these be your only light source, or will you also have overhead lighting?

If by overhead you mean recess lights, yes. Maybe 1-2.

Sides are better.

I like the sides, but make sure they output enough light. Ours were more like accent lighting so we had to supplement with more overhead lighting, as well as a light up mirror.

Sides are better (they project a more favorable light on the face).

We have recessed lights and lights on the sides of our mirrors in our master. Agree with PP that the light is more favorable on the face with side-level lights. It’s also more forgiving. I always stop by the powder room bathroom on my way out to check my makeup because the lights over the mirror better mimic the harsher light in my office. Sometimes I find some places that need to be touched up.

Okay yes then, side lights. Make sure they are at least at eye level - no lower.
