| I have a newborn and low supply. I have been eating a low carb for for about 5 years and I’m wondering if this can impact breast milk supply? Do I need to start eating carbs again or do I just have low supply? |

You asked this in another forum. Unless you have a medical reason for a low carb diet you need to eat carbs to produce milk, also fat. If this is something you are uncomfortable with I would urge you to speak to someone about why that is.

Agree with precious posters but also came in to say add liquids : soups, water etc… in real noticeable quantities
Which is also one of the ways low carb affect milk supply: you retain less water when on low carb. That’s the magic of low carb and why we lose 2-4 pounds in water weight on first week of low carb. But that’s also why it is detrimental to milk supply Now all that being said: if you eat enough calories on a low carb diet (at least 1800) it is probably not the main reason why you don’t have enough supply… dropping low carb and adding liquids may help. But maybe not. I never had proper milk supply, my mom and grandma didn’t either. It happens. Don’t believe anyone who tells you it will come if you just keep pumping and letting your child struggle to get milk. If your baby doesn’t get enough, please don’t hesitate to supplement as much as needed. I waited too long, my baby was hungry, I still regret that stupid mistake |

OP here. I never got around to reading it and then my thread was deleted. I was overweight at one point noticed I felt much better going low carb and stuck to it. |

OP here. I eat a high protein, high fat, low carb diet. Not keto and I do still eat carbs but mainly complex carbs. I don’t eat processed foods or refined white sugars except for very rare occasions like holidays. I don’t count carbs or count calories. I don’t know how many calories I eat a day. I drink at least half a gallon of water a day. A typical day for me. Breakfast: One of these options 2 eggs scrambled in butter with 1 whole grain piece of avocado toast. 1 cup oatmeal with fruit, nut butter, and hemp seeds. Snack: One of these options Whole Milk greek yogurt with berries and nuts granola bar ( Perfect Bar, Lara Bar, or RX bar) handful of mixed nuts Lunch: Leftovers to make it easy or a quick salad with greens, vegetables, chicken, avocado, and dressing. Snack: Either of these options. Whole Milk cheese and almond flour crackers hummus and crackers hard boiled eggs and black olives granola bar Dinner: Anything. Chicken and veggies with roasted potatoes, stuffed bell peppers, pasta, etc. We usually do a protein, vegetables, and a carb like baby gold potatoes or a salad. Dessert: Milkmakers chocolate chip cookie or granola bar with glass of whole milk. |
| It doesn't sound that low carb. Eat more and drink a ton of water. You can diet when you wean. For now--eat for the baby. |

| Low supply is hard and may just be a thing. Eat a ton of oatmeal and a LOT of water. Food for yiu for identifying it and supplementing. Your diet sounds fine. I was hungry all the time when BF and ate a lot of dairy and oatmeal for snacks. |
