Husband sighs frequently

Anonymous
I've asked him about it, and he denies that he's sighing. I can google it and come up with "Excessive sighing may be a sign of an underlying health condition. Examples can include increased stress levels, uncontrolled anxiety or depression, or a respiratory condition."

However, he doesn't seem any different than normal. He is always stressed (no new stress) and has anxiety, maybe somewhat depressed, but no more so than normal, I would have actually said less so if you had asked me. Respitory condition? Nothing obvious.

Plus, again, he denies that he's sighing. Is this just an annoying habit or something to worry about?

It's probably a gigantic nothingburger.

I sigh all the time too, and tens to be depressed and anxious. Look at the world around us right now OP, why wouldn't someone sigh more?

OP the fact that you googled what underlying health conditions are causing him to sigh and then deny it means we have to be the ones to tell you: he's sighing because you're exasperating and denying it because he doesn't want to have a fight about it.

OP humans sigh every 5 minutes. It’s involuntary and you do it too. Leave the man alone.

This is probably more of a function of OP being annoyed by husband, than any medical problem.

This post could be replaced with "swallows too loudly" or "fidgets more than a normal person"

I do this all the time. It’s because I have poor posture that affects my breathing patterns. I absolutely can’t help it, it’s just how I breathe.

Did you marry my ex-husband? The sighing...nonstop. for him: stress, anxiety, and depression in addition to seeming to feel underwhelmed by his life at the time.

He had no idea he was doing it until it was brought to attention by others (not me), but it made me feel sad because he was so unhappy and in denial.

Depression and anxiety most likely. It sucks. But SSRIs cause me to yawn, not sure what's worse.

I used to sigh all.the.time when my anxiety was uncontrolled. Now that it’s managed the sighing has stopped

Is the sighing new or are you newly married?

Is he asthmatic?
I do this when my asthma flares. I guess it is my body's way of trying to get more oxygen.

It’s a natural way to reduce stress and blood pressure.

You should sigh more.

If I am under huge time stressors and deadlines, I will sigh a lot more. It seems like my body’s only way to cope. It just happens, not like I’m sighing lamenting the state of things. Just like, more oxygen or something. But it stops when the stressor, deadline, etc. is over. If it’s constant that seems like something else health related.

Is he obese? Does he exercise?
