| I know Thanksgiving is still the tail end of the hurricane season, but we (my extended family) have our hearts set on doing a nice resort for Thanksgiving next year - where should we look that wouldn't be affected by hurricanes? |
Me again, we are not DCUM middle class, we're normal middle class. |
| No good suggestions, but I like this idea! Also solidly middle-class and hope you get some responses to this. |
| Thinking outside the box - Sedona or Scottsdale |

ABC islands don’t get hurricanes. Aruba.
But we’ve done Puerto Rico and Jamaica for thanksgiving with no hurricanes. If you are really middle class, I would not do a AI unless your goal is to drink a LOT or leave your kids at kids club a lot. Otherwise you are paying to subsidize those groups. They are just not a good deal. If you have your heart set on an AI, I would look at the DR, which has the cheapest AIs. Maybe hard rock. Check Costco travel for possible deals. |

Sometimes I don’t think people realize what all inclusive means. There are plenty of wonderful resorts that include a ton of activities. If that’s not all inclusive. All inclusive means all you can eat and drink and is typically, but not always, associated with a lower quality.
Many years ago we were supposed to go to St. Lucia for Thanksgiving in a hurricane hit, so we got rerouted to Central America. |
| Primland. |
| Hurricane season ends November 30. You won't be in the thick of it. |
OP here - we're not huge drinkers, but I do know that food and activities can add up at resorts. That's why I mentioned all inclusives. I"m open to other resorts that have other activities, and a kid's club would be nice but not required as we'll have a couple teens with us if we need an occasional babysitter. |

I’m the one that recommended against all inclusive s. I’ve tracked a couple different times and even if we eat/drink what we want, it always comes out less. I think it can be different if you are the type to always order the most expensive thing on the menu (my husband always gets the chicken and my daughter always gets the pasta), if you are heavy drinkers, etc. in my experience, the activities included at AI tend to be sort of meh and then they charge extra for the other ones. They can be worth it for specific things like a water park or kids club though. Things like that do add up. |
