should I stop the prometrium?

My history: 1st pregnancy = very early miscarriage, no reason identified. 2nd pregnancy = prometrium and healthy baby. TTC now, and OB says to go ahead and take prometrium after O b/c although we don't know if it helped last time, it didn't hurt.

Last cycle wasn't charting and started prometrium day 18ish. Day 35 or so came and I started spotting (but not really a flow) and getting negative HPT. OB wanted me to get a blood test before coming off Prometrium just to make sure I wasn't pregnant. That was negative, so stopped prometrium and couple of days later got a period. OB said that the fact that I have very light periods anyway + prometrium probably delayed my cycle some before light spotting started.

This cycle I charted and started prometrium after 3rd high temp (to be sure I O'd). 18 days past O I got a negative HPT. That was on Thursday. This morning I spotted a teeny bit (pink on TP). I am thinking I will take a HPT again first thing tomorrow morning, and if still negative, just stop the prometrium and get my period and start over. On the other hand, I could call the OB Monday, schedule a blood test Tuesday, and know on Thursday if I should stop.

But it kills me to think I'll be doing this every cycle for how ever long it takes to get pregnant - isn't that overkill when given the numbers of days, charting, history, etc I am probably not pregnant? I'm about 99.9% sure the negative HPT and the spotting means I'm getting my period, and that it was just delayed a few days start b/c of the prometrium. DH didn't get much this month, so I know there had to be 15 days between when any conception could have happened and when I tested negative. More than enough time for implantation.

Should I get the blood test, or is that overkill like I think it is? Thanks for any input.

My history is similar. I lost a pregnancy even though on pro supps after +hpt a few years back. Then got pregnant and went to term. On pro supps for that one too after +hpt. Got pregnant last year, on pro suppsafter +HPT, but lost that one. Pregnant again, and on pro supps one more time.

I was a little miffed that my OB did not suggest putting me on pro supps after O when I have been trying. However, given how long it took for me to m/c after going off the pro supps after a bad u/s (no hb), and hearing your story, I should be glad.

I guess a lot for you would depend on how low your prog is during your cycle. I know mine tends to be good during my cycle, but drops once I am pregnant. Something I have figure out in the past 6 months.

I was on a clomid/prometrium cycle for 3 months. My Dr. never required me to get a blood test before going off the prometrium. Since you have both a negative HPT and spotting, you're probably safe to stop (of course, I'm not a Dr.). I never had spotting even though I had negative HPT, but I also have very very long cycles. My Dr. also only required one negative HPT before stopping prometrium so we could move on to the next cycle.
