Dog boarding for anxious dog

Anonymous
Looking for NoVa dog boarding suggestions. We love Country Club Kennels but they are booked. Need a place that can handle our leash reactive anxious dog. Lots of outside time is necessary. Would also love a place with private little rooms as opposed to large kennel rooms with lots of barking dogs - makes our guy flip out. Thanks!

Pay some to stay at your house with your dog. Check Rover. Or ask friends with HS age kids.

Are you willing to drive a little into MD?

I've used Rover twice now and have had fantastic experiences with two different sitters.

We just had a fantastic experience at Cavalier Kennels in Front Royal. Yes, it was a hike to pick up/drop off, but Amy (the owner) is great. You can reserve a suite for your dog (a private 8x10 room with a television and window) and since it's so far out, they only charge $40/day. Plus, your dog will go outside four times/day and they have two half-acres enclosed areas for the dogs to play. I highly recommend them.

Closer in, I like Pender Pet Retreat (they also have private rooms) and the dogs get plenty of outdoor time but their private rooms are over $100/night so I only use them for short stays.

In NoVA-ish, we board at Paws Awhile. The Mothers are amazing people, and I 100% trust them to make good decisions. Further away, we used to board at DogTownMaryland. Every dog gets a little house for itself, and a yard, plus play time if they're good with other dogs.

We now use Pender Pet Retreat for our shy/anxious dog as well. But yeah, their private rooms-the Presidential and Executive Suites are $$$$.

When a family member had a serious health condition and we were flying up to Boston regularly, we used Seneca Hills for the same shy/anxious dog. Also pricey but never had any issues and once when we were out walking, my dog ran up to a someone (she is timid and afraid of strangers!!) and it turned out to be one of the Seneca Hills folks who would do her daily playtime. We only use them as backup now because it can sometimes difficult to get a private room reservation. If money isn't a concern, I'd give them or Pender a call.

Whatever you do, do NOT use Old Towne Pet Resort-Dulles. They twice mismanaged my older dog's medication which is what originally caused us to look into Pender as an option.
