Coming back in style? Or should we paint white?
They are quality cabinets with molded finish. Great condition. The wood is gorgeous - but dark. And dated? But I’m reading this from a coming back? Thoughts? |
Do you like it? If so keep them. |
Depends what day you ask me. Lol. I can’t decide. |
I prefer real woods over paint on cabinets any day. Yep |
Thanks. Yes I generally love natural wood. However, I do prefer a lighter aesthetic but it feels almost sacrilege to paint them. I wonder if new countertops would do the trick for brightening things up. Currently an oatmeal/cream. Would go for white marble or quartzite perhaps. |
I have them. I hate them and would prefer white, but I know they painting them will ruin them and they are nice cabinets and only 10 years old. |
I’d change everything else before I painted over hardwood cabinets. |
. Horrible iPhone mishap here. Meant to say “I’m reading this is coming back in style. “. |
+1. I would do other things to lighten up the kitchen, like change the backsplash and lighting. |
My kitchen has custom hickory cabinets (I know, because it's the house my parents built for the family), and they are gorgeous. Very unique and fine furniture quality. Two realtors are telling me to paint them white. I will change the counters to something classic and light colored. I am resisting the paint thing. Do buyers really care? These cabinets are far superior to anything you'd get with new ones. |
I would notice the quality for sure. I can’t stand that wayfair modern cheap look. But I feel like a lot people just go for the look du jour? May also depend on your price point. |
I have always liked cherry wood. (Oak, on the other hand… bleh). I would keep them, personally, with a light counter and backsplash.
I think cherry has the potential for a resurgence, as long as it doesn’t try to bring Tuscan-themed tile with it |
If you're asking the question, paint them. People fetishize wood. It can be beautiful, but often it's not. |
Yeah, buyers care. Something can be wonderfully high-quality but also dated. TBH, anything "very unique'" is going to appeal to a smaller group of buyers. Of course you don't have to paint if you think it would be sacrilege, but painting will likely broaden the number of potential buyers for your house. |
Paint them. |
