I would obviously pay the uncorking fee, but is it trashy regardless? It is for a birthday dinner in DC - semi nice/ trendy restaurant - the wine is special for the birthday person |
If it is a wine they have on the menu, then yes |
Not at all |
Not trashy. |
And the nice trendy restaurant does not have special wine? I would not, but that is just me. |
You have to tip accordingly, but no, not trashy. |
I bring either Franzia or Two Buck Chuck myself.! |
It’s a very common practice, so much so that corkage fee is standard and often listed on the wine menu. If you bring something particularly good or interesting to a nice restaurant, it is a nice gesture to offer some to the sommelier. |
Nope. That’s why they have cork fees. Though call ahead and ask the restaurant about the fee. Also, ask if they have something comparable to the wine you like. It makes sense if you have a rare vintage. If it’s a Yellowtail Chardonnay, then please order off the menu. |
Of course it’s not trashy. It’s usually done by people with very discerning taste in wine, or pompous assh*les. Or sometimes both in the same person. But it’s not trashy. |
Not at all. Some people are very picky about their wines, and usually the wine menus aren't all that great. |
Just make sure it isn't a screw top. |
Why? |
it's a little trashy
|
With all the inflated prices and pressure to tip, absolutely not |
