Woodacres afterschool - help!

Anonymous
I am new to the Woodacres area an am trying to figure out afterschool. Clubhouse is full, and it doesn't seem like there is any flexibility there. My son will be new to the school (in first grade), and I'd rather not put him in the situation of having to make new friends both by day at school, and separately at aftercare at a bussed program (Kenmore or Westmoreland). Compared to where we are now, it seems surprising that the school wouldn't offer an aftercare program large enough to meet the demand, but it seems they don't. I am trying to get a grip on the other afterschool offering - I've heard about chess, math and sports but cannot find a website that lays it all out. When kids do those classes, is it just an hour or so after school and then they need to be picked up in a car (or is there a late bus?). When do you sign up for those programs. Very grateful for any advice - I work so figuring out what childcare, etc. we need is key. Many thanks!

We're at a different MoCo school but I will say that IME if you need coverage for certain specific hours you can't count on other afterschool activities to meet that gap. The activities start and stop on different schedules, so it's hard to get consistent coverage for a year, and they may not register until a week or two before they start etc. Also you are on your own for transportation (I would be very surprised if there was a "late bus").
